It’s hard
to confess that our country is one of the most corrupt, and to come to think
about it; our country has the highest population of believers of the church.
Freedom is our core of action for peace, to have transparent governance is like
living a truthful life. For me freedom of
information is an expansion of freedom of speech; which is today understood more generally as
freedom of expression in
any medium, be it orally, in writing, print, through the Internet or through art. This means that the protection of
freedom of speech as a right includes not only the content, but also the means
of expression.
Greater
access to information will, in general, empower us to hold our public officials
accountable and to participate in government processes that are being opened to
us by this administration. For instance, greater access to information on government
projects and spending will allow civil society organizations to make more
meaningful and accurate inputs. For sure, it will empower our government
investigators and their citizen-partners to run after corrupt officials. Following
and adopting this law will surely help us in our education.
In
my belief, freedom
of information has been spoken many times as a sign of change in the culture of
secrecy. It is worth reflecting on what this means. I take culture in this
sense to be the ideas, beliefs and values which are shared by public servants
and which affect their approach to their work. The culture of secrecy is often
reflected in the attitude of individual public servants, but changing the
attitude of individual public servants will not of itself change the culture of
the public service. This is because that culture informs many of the practices
and procedures which public servants have accepted in the past.
So in this case, I’m slightly
confuse whether it will a good effect, but who knows this might work to reduce
corruption in our country.
